For regional table wine IGT, more than 85% of the grapes with local characteristics under this level must come from the designated production area and must be brewed by local producers. The typical representative of these wines is Super Tuscany, because the government’s control is not very strict, allowing winemakers to have more freedom to play, blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and other varieties with Sangiovese, achieving quality Excellent wines of great character.

DOC, the wine of the legal production area, is subject to strict legal restrictions. It must be produced in a designated production area, must be brewed with specified grape varieties, and meet the minimum alcohol content requirements. Italian DOC is similar to French AOC.

High-quality DOCG wine, which is the highest level of wine in Italy, has the most stringent production regulations. Not only must it meet all the requirements of DOC, but it must also be matured for a longer period of time than DOC. It can only be bottled after passing the inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture. There are even regulations on the age of the vines.
