Q: How long will each semester run at SLIIT? 

A: Each semester at SLIIT spans 16 weeks, providing students with a structured schedule for their studies, assessments, and academic activities. 

 

Q: Can I cross select courses in different program? 

A: It is not possible to select courses from other  programs per semester. The semester includes a fixed set of units that the student will follow, ensuring a focused and manageable course load aligned with their chosen program. 

 

Q: How do I enroll in courses at SLIIT?         

A: To enroll in courses at SLIIT, review your program’s course offerings and consult with your academic advisor if needed. You may then select your courses by filling out an application form that will be provided by SLIIT then submit your enrollment.  

Q: What is expected of me in terms of behavior on campus? 

A: As a student at SLIIT, you are expected to uphold a respectful and positive behavior on campus. This includes treating fellow students, faculty, and staff with kindness and courtesy, adhering to university policies and guidelines, and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Additionally, it’s important to maintain academic integrity, participate actively in campus activities, and respect the university’s facilities and resources.  

 

Q: How does the International Student Buddy Program support new international students at SLIIT?  

A: SLIIT’s International Student Buddy Program is designed to help new international students transition smoothly into university life. Each incoming student is paired with a current student who provides cultural and practical support regarding life at SLIIT and in Sri Lanka. This one-month program promotes a diverse, inclusive, and supportive community, making it easier for international students to adapt and thrive in their new environment. 

Q: How do I obtain visa to study in Sri Lanka 

A: Initially you would enter Sri Lanka on an entry visa. A period of thirty days from the date of arrival to Sri Lanka will be endorsed on your passport by the officials of the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration. Within this period your entry visa will be converted to Resident Visa in order for you to continue your studies at SLIIT. Read our general visa instructions here. 

Q: What accommodation options are available at TAMK? 

A: There is a variety of accommodation options available to suit different preferences and budgets. The Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and International Office will assist you in finding private accommodation facilities during your stay at SLIIT. Q: What are the transportation options available in Sri Lanka? 

A: In Sri Lanka, public buses have traditionally been the primary mode of transportation for most people. However, the emergence of private transportation services like Uber and PickMe has significantly enhanced convenience and accessibility for commuters. SLIIT, recognizing the importance of transportation for its students, offers shuttle services along various nearby routes, further facilitating ease of travel to and from the campus. Furthermore, an added advantage is the Kothalawala entrance to the Southern Expressway being just 1.5km away from SLIIT premises. 

Q: Do I need health insurance? 

A: Yes, You are required to have insurance from for the whole duration of the program. The university may request a copy of the insurance certificate at the beginning of the semester 

 

Q: Are there medical care available within SLIIT? 

A: Ensuring the community’s well-being, SLIIT proudly offers on-campus healthcare services, including a full-time in-house doctor available for consultations. Additionally, their premises have a Suwasariya ambulance service, providing rapid medical assistance and emergency response. These facilities underscore our dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors, fostering a holistic approach to education and campus life. 

 

Q: What healthcare facilities are available near SLIIT in Malabe? 

A: Malabe is surrounded by several private hospitals, ensuring residents have access to quality healthcare services. These hospitals offer a range of medical specialties and facilities, including emergency care, outpatient services, and specialized treatments. With their proximity to SLIIT, students and residents alike can rest assured knowing that medical assistance is readily available in the event of illness or injury. 

Q: What kind of costs should I be prepared for? 

In addition to tuition fees, you should be prepared to pay for the student visa, flights, accommodation, insurance, food and other living costs. The actual costs depend on your individual lifestyle. 

Q: When will I receive my Official Acceptance Letter? 

A: The official letter of acceptance will be sent to you approximately 1.5 months before the semester starts at the latest.  

 

Q: When will I receive my Transcript of Records?
A: The university prepares and sends the transcripts of records, usually within 2 months after the end of the semester.
